PFF 2012: Designer Capsule #1

What happens when an extremely talented young designer begins to ponder future evolution of the human species?  The above picture tells all.  Read on for more pictures of Zsadar SS12/13.

Yesterday was a mammoth day for both of us.  We started early with the Restyle show, then raced off to GP (hastily removing false eyelashes & scrubbing off show makeup) & the library for studious-fun-times.  To top it all off, we attended PFF Designer Capsule #1: SS12/13 collections from Daniella Caputi, ZSADAR, Lisa Marjanovich, and The Butcher + The Crow.

Details after the jump & more photos on our Flickr set here.

The Butcher and the Crow sent their collection down the runway first. Inspired by Picnic at Hanging Rock, the collection featured hand dyed silks in earthy tones & various draping techniques.  Fancy that - our favourite dresses were also on our favourite model!  (see below)

Lisa Marjanovich's collection seemed to be an exploration of a few different styles, including leather, soft neutral colours, simple slips & voluminous skirts.
The highlight of this collection for me was actually the hair!  Messy buns are such a good look.

Zsadar's "Mysteries of the Organism" collection was definitely the most dramatic & "show-like" of them all.  Designer Shane Newton was inspired by 'mutated beauty' and created what looks like simple menswear pieces until you look closer and see asymmetries & interesting details.

Eerie music, low lighting, slow walking models & runway jewellery by Alistair Yap, created specially for Zsadar, all added to the show to make it stunning and might I say quite spooky!  I wouldn't like to meet one of these guys in a dark alley.

The last collection in the show was Daniella Caputi, a renowned local designer.  Her designs are contrasts between simplicity & detail; opaque & transparent; heavy & light.  We both have our eyes on a blazer with laser cut sleeves.
